Born Cincinnati, Ohio, March 10, 1962; admitted to bar, 1988,
Illinois and U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois and
Central District of Illinois. Education: Miami (OH) University (B.A.,
1984); Washington & Lee University School of Law (J.D., 1987).
Member: Defense Research Institute and Illinois Association of Defense
Trial Counsel.
Mr. Pender is a trial lawyer, whose areas of concentration in the firm
are general tort litigation, with an emphasis in premises liability,
property damage claims, subrogation recovery actions, construction and
transportation accidents, as well as a broad range of commercial and
contractual matters. He has litigated cases in federal, state and
appellate courts, and defended numerous mass tort and class action claims.
Published opinions of cases Mr. Pender successfully resolved include
Bailey v. Edward Hines Lumber Company, 308 Ill.App.3d 58, 719 N.E.2d 178
(1st Dist. 1999). He has been a frequent contributor to the literature,
having his research published by the Illinois Association of Defense
Trial Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. In 1993, 1999, and
again in 2003 Mr. Pender was honored by the Illinois Institute of
Continuing Legal Education for the chapter he authored (and updated) on
the Illinois Survival Act for IICLE’s Illinois Wrongful Death And
Survival Actions Handbook. In addition, Mr. Pender handles subrogation/recovery claims around
the country in matters arising from construction defects, natural
disasters, explosions, fires, and equipment defects.
